Instant Pot Goulash Recipe
Instant Pot Goulash Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 pound Ground Beef
- 2 cups Elbow Macaroni {dry uncooked}
- 1 Medium Onion finely diced {approx. 2 cups}
- 4 Cloves Minced Garlic
- Optional: 1/2 Green Bell Pepper finely diced
- 14.5 ounces Chicken Broth
- 2 tablespoons Ketchup
- 15 ounces Tomato Sauce
- 14.5 ounces Diced Tomatoes - Do NOT drain
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 tablespoon Italian Seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon Cumin
- 1 teaspoon Chili Powder
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
- Optional: 1/2 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese for garnish and topping when you serve it up.
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine Italian Seasoning, Cumin, Chili Powder, Salt, and Pepper. Stir well, and set aside.
- Then, turn your Instant Pot to Saute. When hot, add Onion, Garlic, {optional Green Pepper} and Ground Beef, and stir well with large wooden spoon to saute veggies and brown meat. {approx. 5 - 7 minutes}
- Once meat has browned and onions have turned translucent, add blend of spices and seasonings from your small bowl and also pour in Worcestershire Sauce, and stir well. Saute an additional 1 - 2 minutes.
- Once that has been done, cancel Saute setting, add Chicken Broth and Noodles, and stir well.
- Then to the center of the mixture, add Ketchup, Tomato Sauce, and Diced Tomatoes {+ juice from can}. Try to keep these tomato products more in the center so they're not touching the sides of the Instant Pot, to avoid burning. Do NOT stir.
- Place lid on, and select Pressure Cook, High Pressure, and change cook time to 4 minutes.
- Preheating will begin 10 seconds after settings are selected.
- Once goulash is done, do a quick release. {I like to do a gradual quick release to avoid any messy splatters... basically a quick release of steam, in a few gradual nudges}.
- Finally, stir well, dish up in bowls, and top with shredded cheese. YUM!

If I have kids (and a husband) that turn up their noses at tomatoes (the sauce is fine…diced is a no-go!) can I leave them out? I’m assuming I will need a little more liquid since you don’t drain the can…thoughts? Thanks so much!!!
DIY Thrill says
Hi Ali,
I honestly haven’t tried omitting the tomatoes and adding more liquid, but if you do… let me know how it turns out.

I made this recipe several times, and my family loves it! The only problem I seem to be having, is that the pressure cooker keeps saying burn before it reaches full pressure. It ends up turning off, and it leaves me unsure if my meal got cooked or not. I’ve managed to hobble through each time I’ve made it, and I follow your instruction to keep the Tomato product in the middle, but I’m still receiving this burn signal. Any tips?
DIY Thrill says
I’m so glad you love it Susanna! Hmm… I’ve honestly never had this issue while making this, but am glad you have found a workaround. You may want to try adding a little water prior to cooking and see if that helps.
