Most of us non-fishermen would like to think that we ll never get caught in a situation where we need to catch fish to survive, but you never know what can happen. Add a few small, basic fishing supplies to your emergency kit, or learn how to make your own fishing spear out of bamboo . You can even turn the tab from a canned beverage into a basic hook.

Its the unexpected that kills or hurts a good trip. I once made a list of the things that could happen & 80 have to us or others while traveling of camping. Plan for it and somehow the gods say ,” well your no fun, I’ll find someone else to bug” , tee, hee! The old fire, water, food and good common sense. Aloe v for burns, baking soda for bites, contained candles for heat, duct tape for splints etc, flare for trouble, dehydrated food & drink.. Hope this helps get your mind at work. Best to all.

Such a great idea! I’ve done something along these lines for my parents, but I love the idea of fitting it all into a water bottle. I think a little emergency blanket would be a nice addition.

I take a Red Cross first aid kit and extra items i put in are 2-3 sanitary napkins, pressure needed bad cut; Benadryl, tweezer, sling, 3″ tension bandage, lge elastic bandages u can cut to size, eye patch, cotton batting in a prescription container, 2-3 candles. These i put in a back pack w/ water, styro heater, 2 pk dehydrated soup, 2 bottles water, micro (silver) blanket, extra socks, blow up cushion , nuts & candy bars, ready to make oatmeal cups. It gets to -45-60 in winter and if your stuck on the highway; you’ll be glad u have them. Never travel without extra clothes.

Wow – great minds think alike! I just finished a post on this topic. In November 2015, I was at my beachfront condo in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico when a category 5 hurricane was headed straight for the coast. I cannot stress enough how everyone should take the time to prepare for an emergency. This is a great round-up of survival kit items. Thanks for sharing. π
