There are hundreds and hundreds of miles of untouched wilderness in the United States alone that are amazing for camping and experiencing everything the wilds of America have to offer — but for inexperienced campers or those who are camping with young children, taking off into the great unknown can be a bit intimidating.

Glamping is a great alternative for parents who want to introduce their kids to the world of camping without scaring them away. What is glamping, though? And where are some of the best glamping destinations in the United States?

What Is Glamping?

Glamping is kind of a funny word you get when you put “glamorous” and “camping” together. Glamping has grown in popularity in recent years, and its growth has enabled glamping destinations to pop up all over the country.

Top 5 Glamping Destinations in the United States

Glamping can come in a variety of forms — from cabins and teepees to yurts and treehouses — but one thing remains the same across the board. If you’re heading to a glamping destination, you get to experience the beauty of nature without leaving behind the comforts of home.

Top Five Glamping Destinations

If you’re looking for some ideas for your first glamping trip, look no further — here is our list of the top five glamping destinations in the United States:

  1. Grand Canyon, Arizona

The Grand Canyon is a great place to visit. You will be awed by the sheer size of the canyon itself, as well as the beautiful natural architecture. If you’re not too keen on pitching a tent in the desert, though, why not stay in a teepee?

You’ve got the option of staying in a teepee, a standard tent — which comes equipped with a sink, shower and toilet, so no roughing it here — or the Stargazer glamping tent which includes a massive window over the king-sized bed so you can stare at the stars as you drift off to sleep.

  1. Jackson Hole, Wyoming

Wyoming offers some amazingly beautiful vistas — but camping often leads to leaky tents and uncomfortable trips. That’s where glamping comes in, and you can’t get better than Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

This glampsite offers some of the most comfortable luxurious cabins in the area, each complete with electricity, plumbing and even cable in some places. If it’s too cold to go outside or you’re trapped inside by a rainstorm, having access to a television can be a godsend, especially if you’re traveling with kids.

  1. Annapolis, California

California is known for its busy cities, its earthquakes, and its miles and miles of untouched coastline — and it’s the latter that you’ll be taking advantage of if you plan a trip to Annapolis.

These campsites are perched above the Pacific Ocean, and about half of the fully furnished safari tents have ocean views. Some glampsites even include meals cooked by skilled chefs, as well as activities like stargazing, yoga and horseback riding.

  1. Sun Valley, Idaho

Whitewater rafting is one of the most exciting ways to spend your trip in Sun Valley, Idaho. You hurtle down rapids, getting soaked as your raft bounces up, down and all around at the mercy of the river’s current. But it’s a thrill-a-minute as you’re moving faster than you ever thought possible in a person-powered watercraft.

You don’t have to rough it to enjoy some whitewater rapids, though — many campsites offer these exciting rafting tours in addition to all the comforts of home. Enjoy wine tastings, fine dining and state-of-the-art tents between your rafting excursions.

  1. Appalachian Trail, New York to Georgia

The Appalachian Trail offers some of the best hiking experiences east of the Mississippi River — hundreds of miles of trails stretch from the northern part of Georgia all the way into upstate New York and beyond.

Whether you want to hike the whole trail or just a portion of it, there are plenty of glampsites for you to take advantage of all along the trail — from cabins in Georgia to Yurts in New York and even converted train cabooses in Virginia!

Glamping is a great option whether you’re traveling alone, traveling with inexperienced campers or taking a trip with your young children. If the locations we’ve listed don’t appeal to you, don’t worry. There are hundreds more — you just need to find the one that works best for you!
