How to Eat Healthy When You're Busy

A BIG thank you to Splendid Spoon for sponsoring today’s post.

Between work, school, kids, and everything else, eating healthy can feel like a luxury that you just don’t have time for.  Am I right?  When you’re busy, it’s all too easy to start grabbing fast food for dinner or stress-eating unhealthy snacks to get you through the day.  However, eating healthy when you’re busy is easier than you might think!

From nutritious breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snacks, I’m going to share my favorite tricks for how to eat healthy with a busy schedule!

So are you ready to form some healthy new habits without passing up on delicious flavors?  These are my 7 go-to tips for how to eat healthy when you’re busy…

How to Eat Healthy When You’re Busy

Here are a few things you can do to keep yourself healthy while you’re powering through your day…

1: Don’t Skip Breakfast

Breakfast Smoothies

It can be easy to forget to have breakfast when you’re rushing out the door in the morning.  Drinking a fruit smoothie for breakfast is always a great choice!  It can give you a burst of energy in the morning and will help you start your day on a healthy note.  You can even grab one on the way out the door to take along for your morning commute!

Make your mornings easier with these super healthy breakfast smoothies.

2: Drink Water All Day Long

Staying hydrated is such an important part of good health.  I like to use a medium-size refillable water bottle on-the-go, or a mason jar with metal straw when I’m at home.  I take them everywhere to make sure I’m sipping on my H2O all day long!

3: Keep Healthy Snacks Within Arm’s Reach

How to Eat Healthy When You Don't Have Time to Cook

It can be hard to say no to chips and cookies during that mid-afternoon slump… but it’s a whole lot easier when you’re supplied with an arsenal of healthier alternatives!   Purchase healthy snack-size foods like boxes of raisins, trail mix, or healthy granola bars.  Or purchase your favorite healthy snacks in bulk, then make your own snack-sized portions to keep in your backpack on-the-go or stashed away in your desk at work.  When the afternoon munchies hit, you’ll be ready to go!

4: Have a Pre-Made Healthy Lunch Option

No Time to Cook But Want to Eat Healthy

How would you like to take the stress out of “What’s for lunch today?”  These healthy lunches to take to work are loaded with veggies, and are so yummy!  Just pop them in the microwave, heat them up, and they’re ready to eat!  I tried the Lemon Wild Rice and Broccoli Bowl, and it was loaded with delicious flavors.

5: Choose Healthier Options at Restaurants

When eating out, you don’t have to settle for greasy fast food options.  Almost all restaurant chains have healthier meal options now. I recommend sticking with grilled chicken instead of fried, topping your sandwiches or bowls with as many veggies as you can, and choosing sides like fruits, soups, and salads over fries and onion rings.

6: Make a Grocery List… and Stick To It

When you go grocery shopping for the week, make sure to always take a list with you. This little trick is such an easy way to help you from buying random impulse items you don’t need, including unhealthy foods.  Instead, create a list of all your healthy snacks and ingredients you need to buy before you leave the house, then stick to it.  Another great idea is to never shop on an empty stomach.  It’s crazy what can find it’s way into your cart when you’ve got a growling stomach at the grocery store.  Don’t ask me how I know. 🙂

7: Enjoy Healthy, Ready-To-Eat Dinners

Healthy Eating at Work
